We have
captured and edited many thousands of miles of roads in support
of E-911 and rural addressing applications. In addition to our
experience with GPS hardware and software, we also have a former
county 911 director on staff so we have the perspective from
both sides, each as a contractor and end user of the data.
We primarily
use Trimble systems such as the ProXR, ProXH, GeoXH or the venerable
GeoExplorer with Pathfinder Office for post processing and occasionally
use Garmin units such as the GPS 12 for field work. These units
provide excellent accuracy and features for their cost and are
reasonably quick to setup and use. Should you wish to purchase
any Trimble units we can most certainly help there as well and
occasionally we have access to demo units at discounted prices.
We can also arrange for training with your Trimble equipment
as well.
If you
are beginning the process of addressing an area such as a city
or county, we can help with detailed advice down to which method
and software to use for addressing the line segments in your
GIS files. If necessary, we can go to council or commission
meetings with you to explain the process and various pitfalls
to be avoided along the way to make things go smoother.
Figure
1 shows a large county where we mapped approximately 10,000
miles of roads with gps, 1 meter DOQQ imagery and 1 foot orthophotography.
Roughly 4,000 miles of the total mileage mapped was eventually
geocoded and addressed for an E-911 project.

If you
are contemplating city or county addressing, please give us
the opportunity to help or bid on your project. We will also
be happy to act as a consultant and help your organization write
your RFP or sort through proposals.
