Thank
you for visiting Sandia GIS!
Our staff has nearly
20 years experience throughout the Rocky Mountains creating and
supporting useful, accurate, cost effective and more important:
highly functional GIS databases. We have experience working at
city, county and Federal government levels
and working in private industry as contractors for those same
levels of government. Should you need advice on any part of your
GIS system, we can provide you with opinions based on our experience
on both sides of the issue.
Finally
a coherent open source solution with support for the enterprise!
Check out OpenGeo.org if you are looking to cut your enterprise
costs:

We are very happy to
now be able to supply cutting edge, end to end ALL DIGITAL
ortho imagery from one of our partners! Check out the image
below:

Click above for the
full image (a warning though, it's a big file but looks great!)
This
6" resolution imagery would be GREAT for all your GIS and
planning needs!! You can easily make out manhole covers, back
of curb or sidewalk right-of-way lines, fences, etc.
Compare
the following images of a standard USGS DOQQ versus new, all digital,
6" resolution orthophotography (rollover the image):

One
of the advantages to this new imagery technology is the turnaround
time for the job. A large all digital orthophoto job can be
turned around sometimes in 30 days instead of the usual
several months for a conventional film product. Feel free to
give us a call or email with any questions about this great
new technology.
We are
primarily a GIS company and proud to employ new technology but
here are our overall strengths and how we can best help you:
We have done large
amounts of data conversion from digitizing maps created in the
early 1900's to using state-of-the-art gps technology to create
accurate road centerline coverages for E-911 addressing. Our experience
has been used to create multiple data layers for large indian
reservations, small cities and very large western counties. Layers
that have included but are certainly not limited to county parcel
mapping, political jurisdictions, road networks, water/wastewater
and FEMA floodplain mapping.
Sandia GIS specializes
in and has used the industry standard ESRI gis software for more
than 10 years and we are experts with ArcInfo and ArcGIS. Our
experience includes being well versed in Trimble mapping grade
gps
receivers and PathFinder Office. Trimble receivers are exceptional
values when non-survey accuracy is needed for asset collection
or centerline type mapping.
When creating an accurate
gis database, one of the first steps is to have high resolution
aerial photography flown of the area being mapped. Sandia GIS
has subcontractors that specialize in producing extremely high
quality digital orthophotography. Should you decide to take this
step we can arrange for the photography to be flown at the optimum
time of the year for leaf cover, your budget and the overall workflow.
An alternative that is nearly, but not quite as accurate, is satellite
imagery such as that supplied by Digital
Globe. Color imagery makes for an excellent backdrop,
especially for presentations and some feature extraction. Another
source of imagery are USGS DOQQ's which are black & white,
1 meter resolution files and can be downloaded for FREE (free
is good!). If your source imagery doesn't have to be right up
to the minute, DOQQ's are a great way to go. Here is an excellent
source of free imagery and vector data: http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/.
We can also supply
onsite training for any of the technologies we use and we can
arrange for training with Trimble hardware and software.
In addition to using
their products, we can also install and configure most ESRI products.
Our staff also includes outstanding network and system administrator
personnel who can not only install your software but can test,
configure and if necessary, upgrade your existing office computers
and network. We can also install complete networks, firewalls,
secure VPN's and most other pc hardware or software.
Our
goal is for you to use your GIS data in the most beneficial and
efficient means possible.
