At Sandia GIS, we understand that your planners may not be GIS speciaists and may not have the skills and extensive time needed for the field work, image analysis and gis database production to support a large project such as a comprehensive plan or land use analysis.

Our experience includes supporting planning staff with large projects such as these and we can help your staff with field inventories and map documents to support your project. We will work with your staff to define the needed fields, categories, calculations and any other necessary details prior to database production.

With our firm doing the gis database production, your staff will be relieved of a huge burden of extra work and be able to concentrate on document production and analysis. We will coordinate our activities to best incorporate the gis work into your workflow so that your planners will have the maximum amount of time to consider the results and conduct their analyses.

Projects like these that require many public meetings above and beyond the normal planning and zoning meetings can further tax your staffs' time and resources. We will be happy to work with any deadlines or short turnaround times between meetings to help your staff. We are certainly familiar with meeting schedules such as the Monday to Thursday turnaround.

Figure 1 below shows a typical section that is shaded by land use category. In this project there were more than 2 dozen land use categories comprised of several major data fields and many more detailed fields, all values collected with the use of orthophotography and field verification. Every square foot of land within the corporate limits, across all or parts of 21 sections, were accounted for in this project.
